GLASS
Glass forms that are blown or molded with added texture, etched lines, bulges and dents are some of my favorite objects to photograph. When light shines on or within those forms, the resulting shadows are dramatic, otherworldly and beautiful to me. When I convert the composition of object and shadow into a black and white photograph, I am aware of sharp contrasting shapes and softer muted shadows radiating away from the glass piece. I might focus on the glass or let my eye wander away into the shadows. Most often in this series, I’m seduced by the object/shadow interplay.

These 10 x 8 prints are made from polymer etching plates that are sensitive to ultraviolet light. My original photographs are exposed on metal plates with a light box. After the plate is made, I use traditional etching methods to create an edition variée of twenty prints in which each print is one of a kind using the same plate as a matrix. A narrow range of color creates a collection that works individually and in groups.
