WATER COLLAGES
Water can be dynamic or still, forceful or tranquil. This selection of collages and prints showcases some states and properties of water: vapor, fluid and ice. I am intrigued by water, whether it is rushing through rocks, sliding down cliffs or resting in coves, tide pools and marshes. Many of these images are inspired by the Pacific Ocean at Point Reyes National Sea Shore, Drakes and Tomales Bay. The collages and prints represent a moment, as the mist is about to clear, the light about to intensify or shadows about to deepen.
My 12 x 12 water collages include painted paper, original photographs and Japanese rice paper. I tear and layer paper in order to reveal and expose an image, which is intentionally ambiguous. I invite viewers to interact with the image from their personal frame of reference, perhaps lingering amidst the fog drip on a sandbar or perched upon a rock by the crashing waves.
