WATER PRINTS
Water can be dynamic or still, forceful or tranquil. This selection of collages and prints showcases some states and properties of water: vapor, fluid and ice. I am intrigued by water, whether it is rushing through rocks, sliding down cliffs or resting in coves, tide pools and marshes. Many of these images are inspired by the Pacific Ocean at Point Reyes National Sea Shore, Drakes and Tomales Bay. The collages and prints represent a moment, as the mist is about to clear, the light about to intensify or shadows about to deepen.
These 9 x 7 prints are made from polymer etching plates that are sensitive to ultraviolet light. I use a light box to develop my photographs of water on metal plates. Each plate can be printed several times; my intention is to print an edition varié of ten prints of each image. The palette is purposely limited in order to create a cohesive series of images that work individually and as a collection. The prints are an exploration of the varied qualities of water and range on a continuum from representational to impressionistic to abstract.
